A state correction officer has been indicted for a crash that seriously injured a pregnant woman and killed her unborn child.
Andre-Marcel Devieux, 28, is accused of driving a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee northeast on Parkway Avenue in Amityville on Dec. 28, 2025, according to the Suffolk District Attorney's Office.
He was allegedly driving at 106 mph and blew through two stop signs, where the avenue merges into Schleigel Boulevard. He is then accused of driving onto the wrong side of the road and crashing into a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta traveling in the opposite direction. At the time of the crash, he was employed as a Correction Officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility.
The Suffolk District Attorney's Office says the two occupants inside the Jetta were transported from the scene with serious injuries. The front seat passenger, who was seven months pregnant at the time, was brought to Good Samaritan Hospital, where doctors attempted to save her baby but were unsuccessful.
“This crash changed lives in an instant,” said District Attorney Tierney. “The survivors here were left with devastating injuries, including a young woman who was pregnant and looking forward to welcoming a new life into the world. Unfortunately, under New York law, no charges can be brought for the death of an unborn child. Nothing is more important to me than pursuing accountability and seeking justice for these victims.”
Devieux was arraigned on March 13 and charged with assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and multiple additional traffic infractions, according to the Suffolk District Attorney's Office. He was held on a $20,000 cash, $40,000 bond or $200,000 partially secured bond and is due back in court on April 14.
