A Monticello man faces attempted murder charges for firing shots at a Sullivan County apartment complex yesterday afternoon, state police say.
The incident began at the Dollar General Store in Monticello with a shoplifting report. When Sullivan County sheriff’s deputies arrived in Monticello, 29-year-old Markell Jarrette fled on foot.
Authorities say Jarrette fired a shot at deputies near the Evergreen Apartment Complex in Monticello, prompting one deputy to return fire and strike him. Jarrette surrendered a short distance away and was taken to Garnet Health Medical Center in Wallkill for treatment.
He also faces criminal possession of a weapon charges in Monticello and is held on $500,000 cash bail at the Sullivan County Jail.
