State police are warning about a new scam.

According to police, scammers are impersonating officers to obtain information and threatening to arrest people who do not comply.

The agency tells News 12 people are reporting calls from numbers that appear to be legitimate New York State Police.

State police say the agency would never try and ask for information like social security numbers over the phone.
