State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi, who is a former staffer of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, confirmed to News 12's Tara Rosenblum that she is considering a run for the state's top job in 2022.
Biaggi gave her first sit-down interview since the scandal erupted several months ago to News 12's Tara Rosenblum.
It's no secret Sen. Biaggi has had her eye on higher office for quite some time, but on Monday, the two-term Democrat, who represents portions of Westchester and the Bronx, gave her most definitive answer yet when asked if she is considering a primary challenge against Kathy Hochul for the state's top job next year.Next year's Democratic primary - if there is one - could be a very crowded field.
There is already a number of big-name Democrats reportedly considering a run. Technically, Andrew Cuomo's name could be one of them -- despite stepping down, he has not been impeached, so legally he can still run for public office again. He still has an $18 million campaign war chest to spend if he chooses to.
News 12 is expecting candidates to start announcing their campaigns sometime in the fall since the Democratic Party convention will likely take place in February or March.
