Traffic is starting to move again on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers after a major traffic backup that started with an alleged stolen car.
Yonkers police say officers initiated a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
That car failed to comply with the officers and led units on a brief pursuit, according to police.
While fleeing, the suspect vehicle crashed into several other vehicles in the area of the Saw Mill River Parkway and Cross County Parkway.
There is no word on how many cars were hit. Police say three people from those cars suffered minor injuries. They were taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated.
Police say everyone inside the stolen car have been taken into custody.
There were significant travel delays Monday evening as a result of the incident. Northbound lanes of the Saw Mill River Parkway were closed off near Exit 4.
