ALERTS: Winter Weather Advisory for areas north of I-287 from 7 p.m. tonight through early Thursday.
ONTO THE NEXT STORM:
The next storm to impact the lower Hudson Valley tonight into early Thursday will be another nuisance type of event, not major. That said, travel can be slippery this evening again with a wet morning commute on the way for tomorrow.
The rest of today will be cloudy and dry through mid-afternoon with high temperatures in the mid-30s. Flurries can move in anytime after 4 p.m. with steadier snow showers arriving mostly after 6 p.m. Steady snow during the mid to late-evening hours can cause slippery conditions to develop again towards the end of the evening commute. Most of the lower Hudson Valley will get one inch of new snow or less, but areas along and north of I-84 in Orange County and all of Ulster County can see a fresh one to two inches of snow.
Snow will change to a brief icy mix and then rain after 10 p.m. Travel conditions become more slushy and wet overnight. The Thursday morning commute will mostly just be wet with scattered light rain showers continuing through the morning commute. A few icy spots cannot be ruled out north of I-84.
PICK OF THE WEEK:
This will actually be the few hours tomorrow afternoon where clouds slowly break for some sunshine with highs in the 40s. Enjoy those few hours!
VALENTINE'S DAY:
Any holiday plans will not be impacted by weather other than it feeling much colder! Dress warmly.
WEEKEND STORM:
Saturday will start dry with snow developing in the afternoon. Travel can become hazardous into the evening with a few inches of snow possible.
Snow will change to sleet and ultimately plain rain overnight Saturday night and into Sunday.
Sunday does look like a washout at this time with steady rain most of the day. The combination of rain and melting snow on Sunday will cause areas of ponding water so please use caution traveling Sunday.
NEXT WEEK: Much colder, but possibly quieter!
Presidents Monday will be dry and much, much colder with highs around 26 degrees and wind chills in the teens. I really don't see temperatures warming up above the low 30s for all of next week. The normal high temperature this time in February is back up to 40 degrees. There is a chance for a nearby storm during the middle of next week. but as of this morning it is more to the south and east.
FORECAST:
TODAY: STORM WATCH (EVENING) - Use some caution with slick, wet conditions around from last night's trace (north) to two inches (south of I-287) of snow. TONIGHT: STORM WATCH - Snow showers will amount to one inch or less for much of the lower Hudson Valley. Northern Orange County and all of Ulster County can pick up a fresh one to two inches of snow before snow changes to a brief mix and ultimately rain showers overnight. Lows near 32 degrees, then temperatures warm above freezing overnight into early Thursday as snow changes to rain.
THURSDAY: Plan on a wet, slick start to the day with scattered rain showers tapering off through the morning. North of I-84, there may be some patchy icy areas, but most conditions will be wet. SUNDAY: STORM WATCH - Any lingering wintry mix continues to transition to rain. Expect a washout of a day with steady rain and melting snow. This will cause some scattered ponding of water. Highs around 43 degrees. Lows near 20 degrees. Areas of black ice can form at night and into Monday morning.
