Westchester County releases plans for new Memorial Field

Westchester County has released plans for a new Memorial Field.
In a little more than one year, Memorial Field in Mount Vernon will be transformed into a completely new recreational area with a price tag of about $25 million.
Westchester County is footing $20 million for the project and the remaining $5 million is in the city's hands.
The new park has plans to include a NCAA-regulated football field to also be used for lacrosse, field hockey and soccer. Tennis courts have also been added to the design, as well as an eight-lane track.
A skateboard park may also be built at the request of residents.
Over time, the revived field is expected to be a revenue generator for the city of Mount Vernon.
"From the ticket sales, concerts, things that I remember when I was a young person and Memorial Field was open, it had a multitude of activities and it was an activity spot in the community, and I think that it could be that again," said County Executive George Latimer.
The field is expected to reopen in September of 2021.
