Friends, family, and first responders honored fallen Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd by renaming part of West Street outside his former firehouse in Spring Valley on Monday evening.

"They'll remember the sacrifice that Jared made for 16 years saving people's lives and risking his life to save others," said Sabrail Davenport, Jared Lloyd's mother.

The 35-year-old died after helping evacuate more than one hundred residents from a massive fire at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults in March 2021. One other person, a facility resident, also died that evening.

The dedication outside the Colombian Fire Engine Company No. 1 honors Lloyd's legacy, bravery, and volunteerism.

"Just to know that we can come to the firehouse where Jared worked and know that his name is up here it's an honor," said Calvin Lloyd, Jared Lloyd's father.

The fire began several hours after a pair of Rabbis used a blowtorch to cleanse the facility's ovens and kitchens ahead of Passover.

Rockland District Attorney Tom Walsh's office secured six grand jury indictments in the case but only two will result in convictions.

Nathaniel Sommer pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and his son Aaron pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment. Both are expected to avoid jail time when they are likely sentenced to probation on Wednesday as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Two former employees of the Evergreen Court facility had their cases dismissed and two Spring Valley building inspectors were acquitted.

Lloyd's family, local fire departments, and supporters have condemned Walsh's handling of the case, particularly his office's willingness to offer plea deals that do not include jail time.

"No one should be walking away after two murders," said Davenport.

Walsh's office has said the final decision on what sentence to hand down will fall on the judge overseeing the case.

The Sommers' are scheduled for sentencing before Judge Kevin Russo at the Rockland Court Courthouse in New City at 9:30 a.m.
