Bronx and city school dropouts are costing the state money and hurting their future, according to a new study.The New York State Assembly Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force released the findings of its study, conducted by a Queens College economist, Thursday. The study concluded dropouts earn less money, are more dependent on welfare, and health services and are more likely to get arrested.

The report also found the state is missing out on tax earnings because dropouts are not as gainfully employed. In fact, the study found dropouts are costing the government billions of dollars.

New York City has a 50 percent dropout rate while the state has a 35 percent dropout rate, according to the report.
