Summit Health workers gather to call for better working conditions

Workers, like nurse Gina Sarracco, said conditions started to decline when their previous employer was taken over.

Union workers at four Summit Health locations in Westchester gathered for a Day of Action on Wednesday.

They joined forces outside of their respective offices in Rye, Purchase, White Plains and in Yonkers to demand better pay and better benefits.

Workers, like nurse Gina Sarracco, said conditions started to decline when their previous employer was taken over.

"I enjoyed working here for WestMed very much. Summit took over and [there have been] many changes," Sarracco said. "We don't have affordable health care, it's very expensive, we have copays, deductibles."

The front-line workers said negotiations are scheduled to continue on Thursday.

A spokesperson from Summit Health issued the following statement in response to the Day of Action:

"Our current pay and health benefits are competitive with the market. We always have our patients’ best interests at heart and we will continue to deliver high-quality, compassionate care for our community."
