The crime rate is dropping on New York City subways and police officials are thanking surveillance cameras.

Police officials say the subway crime rate dropped 18.6 percent from last year with only seven felonies committed a day. According to police, felonies hit a record high in 1990 with 49 committed daily in subways.

Security cameras, undercover cops and sting operations are some of the reasons for the low level. Police say the video cameras have helped solve a number of crimes.
