Suspect arrested after 9-year-old struck in Mount Vernon hit-and-run

A person is in custody in Mount Vernon after allegedly hitting a 9-year-old girl with their car and driving off.
It happened Friday afternoon at the intersection of 7th Avenue and West 3rd Street.
Mount Vernon Police say the suspect immediately took off. After police arrived, they tracked the suspect to a parking lot on South 6th Avenue, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated.
The child and the suspect were taken to separate hospitals.
The investigation is ongoing.
