Copy-Suspended police chief to run for office
A suspended police chief in Rockland County has announced plans to run for office against the town supervisor who wants to fire him.
From the steps of the VFW Hall in Congers Monday evening, suspended Clarkstown Police Chief Michael Sullivan threw his hat in the ring to become the next supervisor of Clarkstown. "I've never had political ambitions, as my father before me, I've chosen to serve and protect the people of Clarkstown from behind the badge, I would like to continue to protect and serve the people of Clarkstown but for now on I would like to do it from town hall," says Sullivan.
The man who suspended Sullivan, Republican incumbent George Hoehmann, has already announced he's seeking re-election as Clarkstown supervisor.
The two men have been battling for over a year. Hoehmann has accused Sullivan of insubordination, using improper surveillance tactics and dozens of other charges. A judge is currently deciding Sullivan’s fate on some of those charges, charges which Sullivan says were all initiated by Hoehmann. "Because I refused his request to derail an investigation into what I believed to be an illegal $200,000 campaign donation to his 2015 run for supervisor," says Sullivan.
