A 16-year-old boy is facing charges for allegedly shooting another 16-year-old boy inside a NYCHA building in Sheepshead Bay.
Police identified the victim as Kamardre Coleman, who was shot in the chest on Monday. A second 16-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and criminal possession of a firearm.
Police sources say when officers arrived at 2957 Avenue X just before 6 p.m., they found Coleman in a bedroom, unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to his chest.
According to that same source, several teens were in the room at the time. Investigators were told one of them was handling a gun when it went off, hitting the 16-year-old. The source says one of the teens ran out of the apartment right after the shooting.
Paramedics rushed the teen to Coney Island Hospital, where he later died, according to police.
Police also recovered a shell casing inside the apartment, according to a source, and are continuing to investigate. Right now, investigators believe the shooting may have been an accidental discharge, the source says.
Authorities say Coleman lived at the NYCHA complex but in a different building from where the shooting happened.
