Dry and breezy conditions are expected to pop up Tuesday, which will lead to a concern for fires to start and/or spread.
There is an elevated fire risk concern and therefore, the National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for all of the Hudson Valley, except south Westchester and western Ulster counties.
Please be very mindful of doing anything that involves an open flame - especially after we saw brush fires explode Saturday afternoon on the East End of Long Island that filled the sky with smoke and torched numerous acres.
The winds are not expected to be as high as it was on Saturday. Then, we had gusts around 40 mph but tomorrow, gusts are expected to be half of that.
It sounds good, but combine the winds with low humidity levels and dry vegetation and you get a chance for even a small ember starting a large blaze.
You'll be enticed to get out and about (like I hope you did today) Tuesday with temps rising into the low to mid-60s!
While the air will be dry and breezy, there will be an abundance of sunshine. It is the Pick of the Week although today could be argued to be one as well.
Temperatures got into the mid 60s today, around 20 degrees above average. We'll gladly take this "spring preview " before the new season arrives in less than 10 days.
There is a chance for rain in sight, but it won't arrive until the weekend.
A potentially large system could swing into the region late Saturday into Sunday. Saturday will be generally cloudy with breezy winds and mild temps.
Sunday has the chance for seeing rain all day with breezy winds as well. Right now, it is a system we are watching closely.
There have been several St. Patrick's Day events so far this month and with this weekend being the one before the holiday, there will likely be more.
