Thousands of teens in New York had class Thursday along the Hudson River, including Haverstraw students from North Rockland High School.
It's all part of the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation's "Day in the Life of the Hudson River Estuary Program."
The students spent Thursday morning collecting scientific data on the river's tides and currents, looked at water quality and studied some of the fish populations. All that data will then be compiled and analyzed by the DEC.
"They compile all that data and really get an understanding as to what's happening in our environment, what kind of fish we are seeing, the salt front where the salt moves up and down the river," said North Rockland High School teacher Jeanne Maguire.
The DEC reports over 65 schools and 3,800 students participated in the event Thursday.
