Hello everyone, I'm Katerina Bilalles. Drivers here in the Hudson Valley have been taking it slow today. News Twelve's Lisa LaRocca is with Thunderbolt 12 and continues our team coverage in Westchester. Lisa. It seems like we've kind of come full circle. This is sort of what we saw about 5 o'clock this morning when it first started to snow. It's very light, but kind of a mix, kind of a slushy kind of flake, and that's what we're seeing now. We're along the Sawmill River Parkway. I'm going to have John kind of turn around. We've been all over in Thunderbolt, like I said, since 5 o'clock this morning, and this is now where we're at, where we're kind of seeing an icy, slushy. Sort of precipitation that's coming down. You can see there's mostly blacktop on the roadways on the surfaces here and let's just take a look. There's not a great deal of accumulation, but you can see it's kind of that, you know, heavy wet sort of slushy mix so and that can definitely be slippery. So just something to keep in mind now while the roads are we're seeing blacktop, still they're wet and so Concern is of course that as the day goes on, the temperatures drop more that can really turn icy and even more slick. So you just have to be aware if you are heading out for holiday travel and you won't be alone because according to AAA, the 122 million people that are traveling for Christmas, 90% of them will be on the roadways. So just be aware of that. But again, you know, if you just give yourself a little extra. time, take it slow. You should be good. You know, everybody is rushing. We're in the big countdown now to Christmas, so just remember that everybody's minds are all over the place, so you just really again be extra careful and like I said, the concern is later as the temperatures dip more, all of this could freeze up. So, but if you just give yourself some some time and be careful, you should be good. We're in Yonkers, Westchester County. Let's go back to the studio.

DPW crews are out in full force. News Twelve's Melanie Palmer joins us in Yonkers with the details, Melanie. We've been watching those DPW crews go up and down Tuckahoe Road here in Yonkers, making sure that salt is down and where it needs to be. Conditions have drastically improved where we are at compared to this morning. Take a look at some video from earlier in the day when that snow was really coming down. Now leaders with DPW here in Yonkers say they really started preparing for this weather yesterday. They started. By laying down that brine on the major roads and streets just to be safe. Today it's been all about the salt. They say they haven't had to plow yet just because of the warmer temperatures and the snow really melting quickly after it falls down. It has made for some slushy conditions though around the area. Drivers tell us they have been taking it a little slower just as a precaution. Take a listen. It's always much worse than it seems. The roads have been OK, been OK. I mean, this morning, it's a little slushy, just being safe and making sure that you drive slow and look out for the cars around you because you're driving for everyone else. And it's that advice that emergency crews and DPW officials also want to get out there, especially because, like Lisa said, there are so many other people out on the roadway today and in the next coming days for the holiday travel rush. Over in Rockland County, News Twelve's Diane Caruso is giving us a look at the roads. Rocklanders waking up and thinking of doing some last minute holiday errands. Well, you need to be conscious of the roads. I'm here at Strawtown Road and Deer Meadow Drive in West Nyack, where it shows exactly the kind of contrast you should be expecting snow covered slushy side. Roads with the main roads just being a bit wet. The less busy side streets are snow covered as plows have been seen out clearing the more traveled roadways first. County and state roads are much better once you get out of your neighborhoods. West Nia Road and the Palisades Parkway are wet, but otherwise drivers have been moving well. Some businesses are clearing up by shoveling and salting, but I'm not seeing anyone in neighborhoods rushing out to do the same just yet. My take is to stay safe at home for the next few hours to let the plow trucks do their jobs and the weather to calm down. In West Nyack, Diane Crusoe, News 12.
