It's definitely encouraging to see the water receding on that side. But let's check in with Emily Young right now over the Bronx River Parkway. Emily, what are you seeing where you are right now? You're not, we actually moved to the saw mill. So let me get right to that. Now, first, I want to take you to where we are. We are on Avenue in Yonkers and I want to show you the flooding that we have going on there. It's pretty substantial, so much so that Nera Southbound is closed. But you can see here these are the DPW guys, they are working hard to pump, pump out this water and maybe it will be opening up very soon. Now, if you are trying to get home on the sawmill like myself, you're not going to get home that way. I just got off with the county. They said there are bits and pieces that are open, but once you get on, you're going to be detoured and beer right off. It's not even worth it. The flooding, like I said, this is just a taste of what's going on on the sawmill. But we have with us, the Yonkers DPW Commissioner Tom Meyer. Now, Tom, give us, give us the lowdown. What are the roads like in Yonkers right now? Most of the roads are ok. It's the low lying roads that you have to worry about. This is a low lying road. This is, this is one of the valleys that mayor span talking about. We have several of them in Yonkers. The water shed just funnels down. Uh, all the, all the storm water keeps coming down and the storm pipes, it's supposed to head into the river. But once the river gets backed up so much, there's nowhere for the water to go. So it percolates up and floods the roads and, you know, create some traffic problems. What we're doing now is we're gonna pump some of this water over the burn back into the river bed where it belongs. And hopefully we got to open this up. We haven't been able to do it because we'll be getting a lot of rain and it just come back in. But right now we're getting a handle on all of the low lying locations, right? So this is a law right now. So it's the opportune moment to do that. And like you said, we have the geography working against us a little bit in Yonkers, but we are going to stay tuned and keep you posted on the latest going on here. All right, let's go over to the Bronx River Parkway where Emily has been standing by now. And as we know Emily, it looks like a river and even though that the rain has just paused for a second, that water, it's taking a while to recede. It seems I'm going to be honest with you, Nikita, you would think we are at the hottest club in Westchester right now, the way that people have been coming down and checking out this spectacle and it is indeed a spectacle because the Bronx River Parkway is no longer a parkway and it is just absolutely flooded feet several feet. Now, if you're wondering how they're going to get rid of this water, would you believe it's going to recede on its own? We obviously don't know how long that's going to take, depends on the, the rainfall and how much it continues to fall, but it will recede on its own. And then once it does, they were going to have a tow trucks and the whole crew coming in and clearing the area. Now, we are on Parkway patrol. So let me give you a heads up on everything that's going on all the parkways. So the Bronx river is closed between the sprain split in Yonkers and main street and White Plane and this is the longest stretch of road that is closed just for warning. Now, the Hutchinson River Parkway has partial closures between the New York City Line and North Avenue in New Shell. A significant flooding has occurred at Wolfs Lane and Pelham and East Lincoln Avenue in Mount Vernon. The saw mill is closed from the Cross County Parkway to the New York City Line. The Cross county is closed. Ramps are closed from the Hutch Parkway are closed and the Playland Parkway is closed due to flooding on all of these parkways. You will see cars that are submerged in water, cars that have been abandoned because they can't get anywhere and they're going to stay there until the water recedes and until crews and tow sharks can get out there. So it'll be a little while now. Like I've been saying, there is a lull in the water and the rain right now, but you're going to want to stay home because emergency responders are spread so thin right now. So, you know, for the latest on all of these Parkways, you're going to want to stick here at news 12. We were going to have the latest for you all evening, going to send it back to the studio

And we want to get you to breaking news right now. The Bronx River Parkway currently under water. We've been watching Emily Young talking about the rising waters over there. So Emily take us to the scene. What are you seeing right now? Ok. So Nikita, we are here at the Bronx River Parkway. That's a heavy emphasis on the river. This is such a sight to be seen that as we've been here, we're actually seeing people just coming, they're taking photos, they're zooming and face timing with people just to show you the extent of the damage. And we're trying to figure out what happens with all this water. Where does it go and how do they get it out? We still don't really know, but we're trying to get that information for you. Meanwhile, I am on parkway patrol. So let me give you an update on what we know right now. So the Bronx River Parkway is closed between the sprain split in Yonkers and Main street and white plains onto the Hutchinson River Parkway. There's a partial closure between the New York City Line and North Avenue in New Rochelle. Significant flooding has occurred at Wolf and Pelham and East Lincoln Avenue. That's in Mount Vernon. Now, the sawmill, it's closed from the Cross County Parkway to the New York City Line and the Cross County is closed with ramps to and from the hutch. And then the Playland Parkway is closed due to flooding. Now, we here at News 12, even though the rain is letting up a little bit, we're telling you to stay home. Why is that? Because emergency responders are spread really, really thin right now. They are responding to water rescues and cars being stranded. So it'll take a little time for them to get to you. Our team coverage continues now with news twelve's Lisa Laa, she is in Yonkers where there has been a retaining wall collapse right near a very popular pizza spot, Lisa, what's happening here? Yes, we're right on Central Avenue outside of Thunderbolt. So if you guys know Pepe's pizza, that's the area over here. And you can see these guys are over here kind of clearing up. There's debris in the road retaining wall that's up there on that hill has kind of looks like mud muck. This is a job site. They're building a new building here. So no surprise. There's a lot of gravel, a lot of mud as would normally be. So they have one side of the road. This is avenues. They have the right side of it all closed up while these workers are getting all that gravel and mud off of the side of the road. So just kind of be aware, it's not affecting traffic on Central Avenue though. So again, retaining wall just kind of broke here along Central Avenue. Let's go back to the studio

More on some of the street level conditions happening right now across the lower Hudson Valley. We want to turn over to news twelve's Lisa LA driving around in thunderbolt 12 in Yonkers with the latest on conditions there, Lisa. Right. Well, Matt, we're on the Sawmill River Parkway. Let me get right out and show you it's actually a little improved, to be honest with you, from what we've been seeing since we've been driving since before five this morning. If you've been watching us, you know that as we've been driving, kicking up a lot of water. So it looks like right now it's kind of gone down just a little bit. Let's kind of spin around, show you the back view from going out. But still, I mean, you got to take it, you go going to the cross county Parkway and I'm seeing some red lights and you can see a lot of traffic over here on the northbound side. Look at that all backed up. Wow, look at this. This goes way, way back. So we just happen to be lucky that we're on the southbound side. Let's swing over, let's swing right over here look at that line of cars going all the way back here and now we're coming up on dead stop traffic. There's the cross county as we're coming up on the hutch and the sawmill going towards the city. So a lot of backed up traffic as I said, as we're driving, we're not seeing at this part, those big, big puddles, however you can see how there's still problems everywhere, causing big trouble. So again, like Matt was just saying, like we've been saying, if you don't have to be out here, don't. And let me just quick, it looks like they have this closed off. So the sawmill heading south going towards New York City that is all closed off and they are diverting us off on to exit four. So just kind of know that if you are heading this way. Well, we are on storm watch at 11 o'clock with breaking news. Mt A officials are now reporting service is severely disrupted because of all this extreme rainfall. So please use extra caution and check your service status of your line. Also, the governor is expected to speak any time now after declaring a state of emergency across the Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island. This is extreme rainfall we're seeing throughout the region creating a nightmare for drivers. Roads all over the area are closed, including parts of the Hutch in the Eastchester, New Rochelle area, parts of the Taconic in Valhalla. And we have team 12 coverage for you, beginning with storm watch. Team's Lisa Laca. She is out on the roadways in thunderbolt 12 with us right now for an update on the conditions, Lisa, where are you? And what are you seeing? Well, we just got on to the Saw Mill River Parkway. Let me show you what it looks like. And again, you know, you drive and you start to get the ponding and I know we're coming up on it soon. It's everywhere. It doesn't matter at this point, kind of where you're driving. If you've been watching, staying with us, we were just on route 22 a little while ago, going through East Chester area and there was flooding, major ponding the hutch. We got dead stopped on there and that's why we kind of veered off. The rain is just not stopping. Let's show you from, and you see on the other side, let's, I think we're coming up on some, coming up on some ponding. Look at this right here, let me zoom down so you can see what we're hitting and this is, this isn't bad at all compared to some of the other stuff that, that we've been going through this morning. So as you're driving, if you're about to head out and seriously, if you don't need to just don't because everywhere you go you're dealing with rough conditions and this is what it looks like from Danny's viewpoint as he's driving, kicking up water everywhere, not easy to see. And again, you know, slick conditions and, but if you do have to be out here on the roadways and we're just coming up to a red light, you really have to be smart. You know, don't look at the phones, don't play with the radios and make sure you keep your eyes on the road and both hands on the wheel because you hit those that ponding, you hit those puddles, you start to hydroplane a little bit, you start to shimmy and next thing, you know, you're on the side of the road or hitting a guard rail, so you don't want that to happen. So let's drive a little bit further down and this is where it usually starts to get a bit dicey. Now, we're just going past Executive Boulevard here on the Saw mill and this is usually where we start to see a good bit of ponding and flooding and yes, there it is. So let's check. It's not just here, like I said, everywhere. So we want to check in with Jonathan Gordon. He is in the Maronick, Jonathan. I can only imagine you've got to be seeing some flooding there on your end.

Speaking of Eastchester right now, we want to get a live view from street level conditions in Eastchester as we speak from News Twelve's Lisa Laa in Thunderbolt 12 and Lisa just such an awful situation developing here across the Hudson Valley. It really is. You know, we got off the hutch and we came here and we actually, we went past this. We're just turning on to Mill Road right now and we actually turned around and pulled over and waited because we wanted to show you as we were driving how crazy this is. So we'll get up just a little bit further. Here we go. Look, look at this. This is Mill Road just going past the entrance for the Hutch, right, not far from Lake Isle, right around Lake Isle and this is just sorry, wrong way guys. There we go. Look at that. This is the kind of thing and this is, you know, this is not a highway or anything. This is Mill Road going into Eastchester. Look at that. Wow. I mean, Danny's got to take it really slow. This is what you're dealing with out here and this just, you know, kind of came on. I mean, it's been raining since we first started driving early this morning. And we've been out since before five o'clock. And, you know, this is the end result. Now, like I said, we got off at the North North Avenue exit in Rochelle. We were on the hutch and it was dead stopped. So that's why we got off here and then this is what we found. So I'm guessing there's some major flooding happening on the Hutch. There's got to be on the saw mill as well because we started out on the saw mill coming over this way. And it was the same thing like you just saw us going through and that was, and as you know, the saw mill gets horribly flooded. So I can't, can imagine that that's going to be open for too much longer if this keeps up the way it is. So let me show you, this is Danny's point of view. So it just kind of gives you an idea of if you are behind the wheel, this is what you're dealing with. And again, you're going to see flooding like we just went through all over. So this is why I'm saying if you're not comfortable behind the wheel, when you're dealing with this kind of weather, then just stay home because you don't want to fool around with it, you have to really pay attention. You got to keep both hands on the wheel because as you're going through these puddles, this ponding the whole car shimmies and shakes. So there you go. See it again one more there once again. Doesn't take much water to allow your vehicle to start to stall and lose control of it. Six inches. That is it 1 to 2 ft of water and that's when your vehicle can start to float down the street. And there can be a lot of runoff today leading to some of those bigger flooding problems. A bit widespread due to just how widespread this rain. I mean, any time we have the Doppler radar just lit up with all these colors. I mean, it's just pouring pretty much everywhere. We want to show you more of those street level conditions, give you some good visuals about what's going on here across the lower Hudson Valley. For more on that news 12, Lisa. LA is driving around in thunderbolt 12 with more on those Westchester County road conditions. Lisa. Yeah, just not fun. Like I said, not good to be out in the car. You just got to really take it slow. Let's get you right outside and we are just getting on to the Sawmill River Parkway and early this morning when I was driving in there was tons of ponding. So I'm curious to see now how six hours, seven hours later it fas and because it has not stopped raining since Danny and I have been out in b let me just give you a vantage point from his angle that's from the dash cam camera and that's what he is seeing. And you can see you got to have those windshield wipers go in full speed because it is at the moment it's coming down at a really good clip. So back up on our rooftop camera, let's take a spin around here when it's other side and you can see water kicking up from all the cars. So you just have to be for that as you drive around and it's everywhere. So just especially here on the highways on our parkways, you're going to see a lot of the po especially here on the sawmill, the Bronx River, the hud those are the areas that tend to flood and we haven't seen any closures on any of them just yet. But if things continue the way Matt is talking about, don't be surprised if by the time you're home for your board and commute, you're going to have to find alternate routes because you'll have a lot out on these roadways. So look at this, let's just, there's one of them right there we're going through. So again, please be extra careful as you make your way around, we'll continue to stay out here and keep you updated. So this is a potentially dangerous situation developing throughout the Lower Hudson Valley live updates for you all day today. And we also have street level conditions for you all day. I mean, on a day like this, when the Doppler radar is just lit up, we want to show you those street level conditions from our great weather resource, our weather lab on wheels that is thunderbolt 12 and Lisa Lara inside of that right now, driving around showing you those rainy conditions, Lisa, what have you been seeing so far as you've been driving around just a gnarly kind of morning to be driving around. Let's get you right outside on to 287 just going through Port Chester here. Look at this just not fun to be driving around and this has kind of been the way of it throughout the entire morning. Let me get the windshield wiper as you can see, it may be a little bit better. But I mean, just take a look here across the, the way we're heading towards White Plains. But I mean, just look, you know, all that water getting kicked up, it has not stopped we've been in thunderbolt driving since before five this morning and while there have been a few times where it kind of, you know, let up a little bit. It has just not stopped. So you really need to be extra careful. A lot of ponding on the roads, very, very slick, just not fun to be driving. And we were outside earlier this morning on Union Avenue in Harrison where they had a big down tree that caused a power outage that canceled classes at LK middle school as well. So traffic moving along, we're on the hutch and that was really slowed down earlier. So you can see here heading towards white planes, traffic is moving along well on 287 but everyone kind of taking their time and again, you really need to because it's just not a fun drive. So you, you got to keep watching out. We will as well waiting to see if there are any kind of closures. Like I said, awful lot of ponding out here. So please be careful. Let's go back to the studio.

So headlines for the rest of today periods of moderate to heavy rain all day long areas of ponding and widespread flooding possible through the morning and into the afternoon. These are impressive rainfall totals between at least 2 to 5 inches of rain. We already have two inch amounts across of the Hudson Valley. There can be isolated greater than five inch rainfall totals through later on tonight. So we of course, want to show you some of those street level conditions for more on that news to Lisa LA over in Harrison right now with the latest on what's going on in Westchester County, Lisa. Right. Well, we were just over on Union Avenue. A portion of that is shut down because of a big tree and that tree took down wires and caused power outages over at LMK Middle school. So classes were canceled today. Take a look. We're driving on Halstead Avenue right now and kind of quiet, but I'll tell you what, you know, we've been out in thunderbolt since what, since before five, this morning, the rain has not stopped and there are times are really, really coming down other times like right now it's not, you know, it's not like you can't see, but it's coming down at a good clip and this is just causing wet roadways all over and of course, causing a good bit of ponding and let me just get that windshield wiper going on on the rooftop cam and just kind of take a swing around just so you can see. And again, you know, ponding on a lot of our parkways that we normally see early this morning when I was driving in, it was bad on the sawmill. So like I said, don't be surprised that at some point today, you see some closures on the saw mill or on the hutch or on the Bronx River Parkway, some of the usual spots. So you just have to really take your time today as you're driving around, do not tailgate because these are slippery conditions, especially if you suddenly hit a big puddle. And next thing, you know, you got the water spraying all over the place and you're hide your planning. You don't want to be on top of somebody when if that happens to you or the person in front of you. So again, you just got to take it slow and we were on the hutch earlier and you could see that the cars were really, you know, just slowing down, traffic was moving slowly. So that's just going to be the way of it throughout the morning. So just be prepared for kind of a gnarly kind of a ride and we were standing outside earlier. Not fun, that's for sure. So if you do have to be outside, make sure you got that rain gear, have the boots, have the jacket, the umbrella the whole bit. You will definitely need it. So we will continue to drive around through through Westchester County and the Hudson Valley and just kind of give you an idea of what we're seeing. No closures just yet. Day like today on a day when it's a very active Doppler radar like we have right now, we want to give you those street level conditions. So for more on that, let's turn to news twelve's Lisa LA who has been driving around southern Westchester County for the latest on conditions there outside of Thunderbolt 12 right now, Lisa. Where are you right now? Yes, we're in Harrison right now on Union Avenue. Take a look. They have a portion of a blocked off between Indian trail and Cayuga trail. That's because of a down tree and you can't really see the tree from here, but police are here as you can see that and they have the road closed. So if you're coming through this area, you just have to be careful and just plan for that LK middle school here in Harrison, by the way, is canceled. Classes are canceled because of a power outage. You got to wonder if this down tree is part of that because LM is just down the way from where we are. So that is possible. In the meantime, you can see it is really coming down, no surprise and that's something that, you know, we've had so much wet weather lately that the ground is wet. So any unstable trees, that's not a surprise, something coming down, something to think about as you're making your way around today. In the meantime, we've been driving around in thunderbolt since early this morning. Just a gnarly ride on this Friday everywhere you go, it's just not fun. So you need to really be extra careful, especially because it's been coming down nonstop since we've been out here. So that means lots of ponding, especially on our parkways. At least it's starting to get light it out. So you'll be able to see a little bit better. That was my concern early this morning when it was pitch black. You just didn't know when you were hitting those ponds until you were right on it and starting to shimmy. So once again, portion of Union Avenue shut down here in Harrison. So we're going to continue to drive around in thunderbolt, let you know how things are looking. But please guys take it slow, take it easy, be extra careful this morning.

But here is a live look at what's going on Doppler radar showing us certainly a lot of these bright colors that this morning showing us the heavy rain and Lisa La Rock driving around in Thunderbolt 12 right now. Also showing us some of those street level conditions from around the Mount Vernon area and Lisa steady rain right now, as I said, just a minute ago, you're about to get a downpour where you are and big concerns as we go throughout the rest of today. Yes, absolutely madam. And it's been coming down at a good clip since we've been driving around this morning. Let's take a look outside. Thunderbolt, show you what we're seeing. We're on Graton right now, driving around, let me tilt up here just a little bit. That's a little too much. There you go and get those windshield wipers going on so you can see a little bit better. But yeah, it's just gnarly outside, you know, is the best way to describe. Been driving around your morning. Commute is just not fun and we've been on the Saw Mill, we've been on the side roads. You're really, when you're getting on, we're on 85 on New York State thruway as well. And it's just really, it's hard to get around. You really have to be careful. You got to be paying attention and you have to take it slow. A lot of water getting kicked up. It's not easy to see, especially when you get those downpours, But it, unfortunately, it has been nonstop right at this particular minute. It's not coming down super hard as you can see. But just enough when you get those downpours, it's hard to see. And again, you know, still pretty dark outside and we've been talking about it all morning, Matt mentioning it as well. When you're on any of our parkways, the lighting is not good. So there's a lot of ponding out there. You have to be so, so careful, really watch out for it because you really don't know until you're going through it and it can really, really give you a good jolt. And so that's something just to keep in mind if you, if it really makes you nervous, just kind of wait a little bit longer if you can to leave until it gets laid out. So you can actually see what's going on. So, right now, again, on Graton Avenue here in Mount Vernon, we'll continue to drive around and let you know what we're seeing from here. In thunderbolt. Let's go back to the studio and from Mount Vernon to Lisa Lara's hometown of Harrison. We want to let everybody know about a down tree and a road closure in this area on Union Avenue. Again in Harrison, police have confirmed that roadway is now closed between Cauna and Indian Trails. Crews are working to clear that scene and reopen that roadway and as soon as that happens, we will let you know. But again.

So for more on this news to Lisa, LA driving around live for us in Thunderbolt 12 right now with a look at those street level conditions. Lisa, how are things where you are so far this morning? Yeah, like I said, it's, the rain goes, you know, heavy, then it lightens up a little bit. Take a look outside right now. Let me get those windshield wipers going up on our 360. So you can see a little bit better. A little bit of a treacherous drive. We're on 85 heading south right now. I wanted to check it out and of course, you know, the get behind these trucks like we are and it certainly kicks up a good bit of water. It can be hard to see again. We were earlier, if you were watching, we were on the saw mill, lots of ponding there and we're just about going past by ST Leonards and that will give you an idea of where we are. So let's kind of take a look around, look at all that, you see how that water is getting kicked up. That's why you really need to give plenty of extra time as you drive around today and take it really slow. Don't tailgate, please do not tailgate because this is, you know, this is ripe for conditions where suddenly the person in front of you starts to hydroplane shimmy. And if you're too close and he goes, you go too. So just know and sometimes the rain comes down at such a good clip that it's hard to see. So just know all this going in would not be surprised if we see any kind of closures on the usual spots because again, sawmill already big, big ponding there. So we'll continue to drive around and we'll let you know what we see and if we have any closures but nothing closed just yet, we're in thunderbolt. Let's go back to the studio.

Remember some flash flood safety here. Very, very dangerous. We will likely see some road closures, travel delays as we go throughout the day and you can't really know the depth of the water that you're coming up on. So please turn around, don't drown. We say that all the time with these types of weather events, but it is so important on a day like today and especially this time of day when you can't really see anything that will happen this evening and later on tonight, especially as we have hours and hours of the heavy rain and it gets dark towards that seven o'clock hour and we will have some really bad conditions later on. So for more on the street level conditions right now, news clubs, Lisa Laa driving around in thunderbolt 12 and showing us some of those conditions this morning, Lisa. Yes. So important what you said, Matt, so dark on our parkways, the sawmill, which is where we are now. So let's get a look but you can't tell. And as we're driving, you'll see, I mean, we just hit one of those we'll see right there and you can't see it until you feel it. So as you can see, Danny is, you know, taking it slow, being extra careful, especially until we get some light out here. So, as I said, you know, I came in this morning and there was all ready, heavy, heavy ponding and I was coming down the south side and now we're driving northbound on the saw mill and it's every few feet. We're hitting that. So I would not be surprised at all if we see closures on the saw mill on the spots that we usually do the Hud Bronx River Parkway. So just kind of be aware of that. It's not raining particularly hard at this moment, but it kind of goes in waves when I was driving in earlier. It was hard to see. I had the windshield wipers go in full blast and let me just show you from Danny's viewpoint. Here's what it looks like out from the camera on, on our dash. And again, you can see it's kind of hard to see. And then here's our 360 up on top. So let's just kind of take a spin around and there's ponding on the other side just as much as there is here on the northbound side. So, and it's hard to, you know, you got to hang on to the steering wheel when you feel that because the whole car really shimmies and that's what, unfortunately, the Saw mill is really well known for those big, big, big puddles and heavy ponding. So if you're heading out, give yourself plenty of extra time, please. Everyone I can't stress this enough. Also, we're all in a hurry. We're all anxious to get to where we're going. Do not tailgate because again, you're hitting those puddles at the last second, the person in front of you slams on the brakes and the last thing you want to do is rear end somebody in this kind of weather. So plenty of extra time. Take it slow. Be smart, be aware and we'll continue to drive around throughout the morning and let you know what we're seeing. We're in thunderbolt. More on those live road conditions. Right now, we turn to News twelve's Lisa Lara who is out and about in Thunderbolt 12 driving near Avenue in Yonkers right now, Lisa, what start to the day? What are you seeing so far? Well, I'll tell you what my drive in was not fun at all on the saw mill. Lots of heavy, heavy ponding. Don't be surprised if you see closure. So let me show you outside right now here at Thunderbolt and we're on Never Hand Avenue. We chose to start here because, and Danny is just going to pull out if you remember just a couple weeks ago, all cars all along right here, they were floating. So that's talking about you saw some of those areas right along here along the Sawmill River Parkway and you had people having to get pulled out of their cars over on Clooney Avenue here in Yonkers, which has forever been a major problem. Now, at this particular moment, the rain has just slowed, but this just happened, of course, while we go on air. But I can tell you driving in, it was nasty. It was hard to see how the windshield wipers go in full blast and like I said, driving on the saw mill a lot of ponding, you really had to slow down on a lot of spots. So, like, you know, just kind of be prepared. We'll be watching it for you, but don't be surprised if you see any closures, sawmill, Bronx River Parkway hutch, all the usual spots. So right now just, you know, wet roadways here on Nera, which is good. But like I said, it wasn't too long ago. We saw cars floating up and down here. So just kind of be careful as you head out. Look, you know, it's on and off and that's the problem. And as always, my problem or my worries are always that our parkways are so dark, there's not this time of day, not a lot of lighting. So as you're driving, you can't really see when those heavy puddles are coming up until you're on them. And that can really give you a good jolt and you can hide your plane. So that's why if you're leaving now, please give yourself plenty of extra time. Be extra careful. We'll be out here, we'll keep you up to date on the conditions. Let's go back to the studio.
