Residents are showing the Valentine's Day love to undocumented immigrants.

It may be Norma Pereira's one-year wedding anniversary, but she isn't busy planning a romantic dinner. Instead, she organized a demonstration for immigration reform.

Pereira says she was inspired by a TikTok video that's been viewed over 1 million times, urging people to spend their Valentine's Day showing their love and support to the undocumented immigrants living there.

"What's the whole idea of Valentine's Day? To share kindness, love and understanding and demonstrate that to our loved ones and the people that surround us. We have 11 million undocumented immigrants in this nation that we need to advocate for and bring voices together and that's why we're here today," she says,

Brewster is home to a very large immigrant community. As of 2019, more than 48% of residents were born outside the country. According to the village, there are more Hispanic residents in Brewster than any other race or ethnicity.

Many of them braved the frigid temperatures Monday to lend their voice to a cause close to heart.

"Today we're here to talk about love. When I think about how I love my friends and family, it's by taking care of them and making sure they have their basic needs met. And that's what we're fighting here today," says Pereira.
