Many parents and
day care owners are upset with the newly introduced mask mandate for toddlers.
The state updated
its guidance for child care and summer camps to align with the CDC on
Wednesday.
Children age 2 and older are now required to wear masks at day care when they aren’t eating,
drinking or sleeping.
The change to the
state policy sent day care owners
scrambling to notify parents and figure out how to implement the new rule to
avoid any problems.
Layla Rascona,
owner of Rascona’s Daycare in Yonkers,
is among the owners trying to wrap their heads around the new decision.
"They won't
be able to talk to each other, sing, breathe with these masks on. They will not
be able to manage these masks,” says Rascona.
Besides concern
over the children’s ability to function with masks on, several toddler parents
say it’ll be impossible for kids to keep them on.
