Some Spring Valley residents are fed up with the trash problem in their area and are calling on village officials to take action.
Kimani Decosta has lived in Spring Valley his whole life. Decosta says he has never seen the trash problem as bad as it is now. According to Decosta, it's been more than three weeks without garbage pickup.
"You can see over here we have couches, box springs, just a whole bunch of filth," says Decosta.
Residents say with the overflowing garbage comes rodents.
"The rats are so used to us now, they don't even run when we try to chase them out of here," says Otis Jones.
Decosta says he's tried to contact the village for answers but has been given the runaround.
"I never got a clear answer," says Decosta. "Mostly I just hear short-staffing. So, then I took it on my own to get numbers off the dumpsters, call the companies and find out what's going on."
Decosta says the companies are blaming the landowners and that it's not their responsibility.
Jones says he has tried to complain as well but has gotten nowhere.
News 12 reached out to the village of Spring Valley but has not heard back.
