A passenger’s checked bag triggered an alarm Thursday morning in the baggage screening area inside Terminal D at LaGuardia Airport, according to the TSA.
The TSA’s explosives specialists and the NYPD Bomb Squad were on the scene to evaluate the contents of the bag. Terminal D was evacuated as a precaution, and the airport urged customers to catch flights through Terminal C during the investigation.
The NYPD Bomb Squad cleared the contents of the bag around 9 a.m. and determined the substance was not dangerous. Terminal D reopened shortly after.
All roadways to terminals C and D were closed earlier due to police activity, but have since reopened.
The owner of the bag departed and arrived in Detroit, where he was questioned by law enforcement.
