The scourge of gun violence plaguing New York City streets is the focus of an exclusive News 12 interview with Mayor Eric Adams.
The interview with News 12 senior investigative reporter Tara Rosenblum took place only one day after a 7-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet in Coney Island and after more than two dozen New Yorkers were shot over the weekend.
Adams was asked about his blueprint that he expects will result in gun violence rates falling.
"Well, we want it to fall immediately. But as we stated over and over and over again - in some of the rivers that we must dam that I mentioned in my blueprint I'm not in control of. I'm not in control of the laws in Albany. I'm not in control of the funding for ATF and the coordination with our federal government. Those things that are within my control such as was mentioned, dyslexia screening to stop feeding crime, my antigun unit, putting money and resources into the crisis management system and have representative in each agencies. All the things that are within my span of control - put money in our foster care system. They are going to be carried out immediately," says Adams.
Rosenblum also asked Adams to respond to Gov. Kathy Hochul's new controversial plans for the cash bail law.
