Gov.
Kathy Hochul has signed a bill into law that now requires lodging employees who
interact with the public to be trained on how to identify human trafficking.
The
new law comes after News 12’s Tara Rosenblum exposed the vile sex-trafficking
phenomenon in hotels and motels across New York and in the Hudson Valley in
2018 in her series 'Slavery in Suburbia.'
State
Sen. Shelley Mayer (D) sponsored the bill as local law enforcement officials confirmed to News 12 that there
was an alarming uptick in trafficking during the months of lockdown.
The training will be required among employees within 60 days of employment.
