News 12 went inside one of the few sail making companies that still exist, and it's right here in the Bronx. 

The UK Sailmakers have managed to stay afloat on City Island in a specialized industry for close to 70 years. It has been designing, stitching and even repairing sails since 1946. 

The sail making process begins with a design concept, and takes anywhere from a couple of hours to four days depending on the sail size. Panels then go through an assembly line of sewing, which is all done by hand. 

UK Sailmakers is also currently hard at work making awnings for the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn and it'll be making dozens of sails to represent 18 different countries for the New York Yacht Club.
