Ulster
County is alerting the public to an alarming rise in overdoses and
opioid-related deaths this month.
Officials
say the county has seen 39 overdoses so far in August, including seven
fatalities.
They
say one person who died was a 14-year-old girl.
Officials
are hoping to raise awareness and are urging people to reach out to the Ulster
County sheriff’s opioid-crisis program, ORACLE, if they need help.
“We
really want people to know - forget about the stigma. Pick up the phone,” said
Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa. “Let’s get through the month of August
with no more overdoses. No more deaths. There’s help out there if you need it.
Call.”
If you
or someone you know in Ulster County needs help with addiction, you can reach
ORACLE program counselors by calling 888-996-0940.
