For an unemployed substance abuse counselor, trying to find a job in Rockland County became a lot harder due to a case of very bad luck.
Harry Byrd came from Arizona in search of a job as a substance abuse counselor. While staying at the Raintree Motel in Congers, all of his clothes were destroyed by a flood that occurred in the room above in October.
At first, Byrd says the motel owner agreed to pay for the cleaning, but balked when he heard it would cost $1,000. The motel's insurance denied the claim and Byrd is now being forced to take his claim to small claims court.
"You go to an interview to present yourself," says Byrd, "I can't present myself in a pair of jeans and a summer shirt."
Byrd says he has filed a complaint with the state attorney general's office.
