Suffern police say an unfounded incident Saturday morning garnered a larger than normal police response.
Police say they received a call around 9:50 a.m. that "dangerous events could happen."
Suffern police alerted other police departments and the SWAT team to come down to the Woodland Drive area of the village.
Paramedics, EMT, the Ramapo Police Department, the Mahwah Police Department, and the sheriff's department responded.
Once on the scene, first responders attempted to locate people in a house, but no one was home. Through further investigation, they found the call to be a prank call and the incident was unfounded.
Village Mayor Michael Curley said swatting incidents like this one put a strain on communities.
"Tens of thousands of dollars, these things cost the people in the community because the Village of Suffern and all these communities will not hold anything back to protect our communities," Curley said. "At the end of the day, it's the taxpayers paying for this all. So these prank calls, these malicious prank calls are damaging everyone. It's not just the costs, it's the danger. Once an emergency vehicle goes into service, you are then putting other people into danger on the road."
There were no other details confirmed on the caller behind the swatting incident as of Saturday night.
This incident comes following a swatting incident that happened Thursday at a Lexington Avenue home, which Suffern police say was traced back to a Florida teen.
