Law enforcement agencies throughout the Hudson Valley are stepping up patrols in preparation for a “Day of Hate” supposedly planned by white supremacists on the internet.
It is alleged to involve antisemitic activities in undisclosed locations across the country.
While local law enforcement says there is no direct threat to the Hudson Valley area, many departments tell News 12 they plan to increase patrols and add decoy vehicles.
Spring Valley police have stated that they are adding two more patrolmen to the five already on duty.
The three-square mile village has more than 30 synagogues, along with other religious and cultural centers.
"We ask the public to obviously remain vigilant. If they do see something, say something. We're going to have a bunch of extra patrols out so if you can't use any electronics, or any type of device or don't have a phone on you, flag down one of our officers and they'll be ready and willing to assist you,” said Matt Galli of the Spring Valley Police Department.
According to the Anti-Defamation League, the “Day of Hate” threat does not come as a surprise.
"We've seen a rise in antisemitism and in general hate in the U.S. when it comes to antisemitism. ADL tracks antisemitic incidents. We’re seeing record numbers and that’s deeply troubling,” said the ADL’s Etzion Neuer. "White supremacists are very proud and feel they can go on a street corner. In some cases, they are livestreaming their activities to their adoring extremists who are cheering them on."
