Democrat Josh Riley has conceded in the 19th Congressional District.
Riley made his announcement just hours after Republican Marc Molinaro was declared winner in the contest.
Riley said, “let’s set aside our divisions and do our best to unite.”
He says it’s in that spirit that he wishes Molinaro much success as he goes to Congress.
He said he appreciated Molinaro’s stated commitment to oppose a national abortion ban, improving funding for mental health services and creating good jobs in upstate New York.
Before he’s sworn in to his new job in January, Molinaro will be stepping down from his current job as Dutchess County executive.
