The City of Newburgh Fire Department could soon be operating with less firefighters on each of the different shifts.

Council members will vote Monday on a proposal to cut the number of firefighters on each shift from 10 to 7. This would reportedly shut down an engine company within the fire department.

Mayor Torrance Harvey says the plan was made by the city manager and would leave one engine truck on standby.

Harvey says no jobs would be cut, but critics are concerned about public safety.

Fire Chief F.J. Spinelli says he plans to meet with city officials.
