While the season of giving has come to an end, the need for help continues year-round.
The Supportive Futures Foundation hosted its first food giveaway on Monday at its office in West Haverstraw. The event was open to the public, with people allowed to pick up boxes of food at no cost.
The giveaway comes as the organization marks one year of serving Rockland County residents. In addition to providing food assistance, the foundation supports individuals with insurance navigation, job readiness and essential life skills.
“It’s beneficial to the public. We’re here for everybody. We’re here for Rockland County. We’re here to help. We’re here to feed people,” said Leslie Ashby-Cousar, a case manager with Supportive Futures Foundation.
The organization plans to hold food giveaways once a month moving forward.
GA Foods, a food service that gives meals to people every week, was there handing out shelf stable items and connecting with people to let them know what they offer.
The Supportive Futures Foundation is located at 45 US-9W next to the DMV.
