Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins gave an update on the preparations for Thursday's winter storm.
“The morning commute will be treacherous,” says Susan Spear, the commissioner of Emergency Services for Westchester County.
The Department of Public Works has been putting down salt and brine on roads.
“Be prepared for slippery roads, slowing down and using caution while traveling,” says Jenkins. “If the road conditions in your area become hazardous, consider waiting until the roads are cleared before traveling.”
The Department of Public Safety will have extra crews on the Bronx River Parkway on Wednesday night to respond to any crashes.
“There will be more 911 dispatchers on staff overnight and in the morning in case there are a number of accidents that we need to respond to,” says Spear.
But they're encouraging residents to stay home if they don't need to travel tonight or Thursday morning.
If you do need to be on the roads Thursday morning, officials say drive slowly, don't get too close to snowplows and leave extra time for your commute.
They're also expecting icy sidewalks so they're urging caution when walking outside as well.
