A local business and a local venue are helping people who have fled Ukraine.
Donations have been flying through the doors at the Westchester Design Center for the past week. Some challenges are rising, but it's not the amount of donations that they're having trouble with.
"They only accept monetary donations," says Valentino Lopergolo, Westchester Design Center owner.
They are now reaching out to find another option.
"We hope that we can get some companies that will help us ship this help to at least Poland," says Lopergolo.
They're not the only ones with big hearts and good intentions: a concert benefit will be held atTarrytown Music Hall this weekend.
"Present some traditional Ukrainian pieces so that every member can look at the Ukrainian culture from inside,"says Irena Portenko, event organizer and performer.
Portenko is Ukrainian and a musician, the two characteristics that brought her to this mission.
"This was day one: Shock. Day three, so I thought, 'OK, I have to play, I have to play a concert. Where is it going to be? I have no idea, when is it going to be?' As soon as possible, of course," says Portenko.
Information on the concert can be found here.
The Westchester Design Center, which is located next to a Staples, says it is still in need of volunteers, and it plans to continue boxing everything up Saturday. It is also seeking a company or person who can help ship the items as well.
