Westchester County police say they arrested three juveniles Thursday night after a police pursuit ended in Yonkers.
County police say it started when a patrol officer attempted to stop a car on the Saw Mill River Parkway that was reported stolen.
That driver did not pull over and fled. Officers chased the car until it crashed in the area of Rumsey Road. Police say three 16-year-olds jumped out and ran off.
News 12 spoke with neighbors in the area who watched it all go down.
“It was massive. I mean, it was more cop cars then I’ve seen in a long time,” said one resident.
Video sent to News 12 from neighbors shows just how hectic the scene was.
“I heard a crash, a big crash. Then we came and looked, there was police after a car and that car hit almost three cars over here,” said Yonkers resident Mohammad Awawdeh.
A county police spokesperson said officers apprehended two of the teens after a brief foot. They found the third a short time later with the help of a tracking canine.
“They had this whole throughfare blocked off. So only the traffic going north was moving, anything over there was being detoured,” explained one resident.
When News 12 went back to the scene Friday afternoon, only pieces of broken glass and police caution tape remained.
Neighbors were left wondering why this even happened in the first place.
“Why are they trying to steal a car? What is the purpose?” asked Valjdet Dzaferovic, a Yonkers resident.
According to police, all three were charged with criminal possession of stolen property. The driver was also charged with unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle.
News 12 reached out to Westchester County police for more information on the teens but had not heard back as of Friday night.
