Westchester residents still have time to have their voices heard on police reform

The state deadline for all communities to turn in their police reform proposals is coming up quickly, and the key is there is still time for people to have their voices heard.

The drive for police reform is moving into high gear in New York.The Westchester County Board of Legislators announced it has begun its formal review of the County's Police Reform and Reimagining Task Force report.

In writing: Comments can be submitted in writing, beginning immediately, by emailing BOLPublicComments@westchesterlegislators.com or mailing physical copies to the Clerk of the Board of Legislators, 148 Martine Ave., 8th Floor, White Plains, NY 1060. Written comments must be received by March 10 at 5 p.m.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo instituted a requirement for reform proposals for police departments across the state back in June, as protesters were taking to the streets in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.
The county task force is made up of a diverse group of 38 people from all kinds of backgrounds.
The task force recently completed its initial report - 179 pages with 51 different recommendations.
News 12's Scott McGee talked to the two co-chairs Thursday about the report and what they believe is one of the most important changes they'd like to see.
