Westchester County Executive George Latimer says the county will review the last inspections for many county buildings to make sure they are safe and up to date.
The action comes as more information is revealed about the building collapse tragedy in Surfside, Florida, near Miami.
Latimer says he does not believe there are any issues but that the building collapse in Surfside is something every community should learn from. "That tragedy is a wake-up call to everyone. And every time we see a tragedy happen anywhere around this country or around this world, the solidness of a physical structure, the integrity of a bridge or major roadway, it's an important moment to treat it as a wake-up call."
When the county review is complete, the findings will be released to the general public.
