White Plains marked Memorial Day as a day full of remembrance to honor those who served in the U.S. military.
Things kicked off with a parade.
Petty Officer 2nd Class of the U.S. Navy Jonathon Manzueta was the grand marshal. It was a title he was honored to fulfill.
"This is the first time I've ever done something like this, it’s truly a blessing and an honor to be chosen for something like this," Manzueta said.
Manzueta served in the Navy and went on multiple deployments.
He is now an officer with the White Plains Police Department. It's another title that he is excited to take on because White Plains is his home.
"It’s helping the people I grew up with, helping the city and the community," Manzueta said.
“He did three deployments, it was hard not having my son home but it’s an honor and I know he is serving his country and giving back to the community where he grew up," said Manzueta's Mother.
The city also recognized Manzueta after the parade during a special ceremony.
