A woman is dead and a baby girl is fighting for their life after falling from a terrace in the Allerton section of The Bronx, police say.
Police say they responded here to 2550 Olinville Ave. around 3:38 a.m. Tuesday. Nathaly Ramirez, 23, and a baby girl were found with injuries that appeared to be caused by a fall from an elevated position.
Police say Ramirez was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The baby, who sources say is believed to be between 5 and 7 months old, was rushed to the hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
News 12 first learned of this incident after a woman called the newsroom in tears, saying she believed a woman jumped off the building's terrace with a baby.
An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, tells News 12 she heard loud noises before watching the bodies hit the ground.
"I’m hearing a dog barking really loud and her just screaming, 'No, no, please don’t do this, my baby, look at my baby’s face. She’s scared, she’s terrified,' and that’s when I, at the same time, I could see something come off the terrace," she said.
Police sources say Ramirez and the baby were pushed or thrown from their 15th-floor balcony. They are now searching for a man who has a ponytail and was last seen leaving the location in a gray sweater.
