A Bronx woman was sentenced to 25 years to life in the murder of a 91-year-old Bronx woman in 2003.

Sparkle Daniel was found guilty back in February of murdering Nellie Hocutt.

Prosecutors said Daniel and another woman conned their way into the elderly woman's Williamsbridge home by telling Hocutt they needed to use her phone. Once inside, they robbed her, poured wine down the elderly victim's throat and then suffocated her with a plastic bag.

Daniel was originally convicted back in 2010, but it was overturned on a technicality. In an unexpected move Tuesday, Daniel refused to attend her sentencing after a judge agreed to allow the defendant to be photographed for News 12’s broadcast. 

Despite Daniel's action, the victim’s relatives say they waited 15 years for justice. They say the sentencing finally brings them closure.
