A write-in campaign for Rockland County district attorney is shaping up weeks away from Election Day.
There’s a write-in effort underway in support of Theresa DiFalco to become Rockland’s next district attorney. DiFalco is challenging the current District Attorney Thomas walsh, who is on the Democratic, Republican and Conservative lines.
DiFalco was a prosecutor in the Rockland County District Attorney's Office during the early 2000's before becoming a defense attorney. She also served as president of the Suffern school board.
The lifelong Rocklander knows it's an uphill battle to win but says she's ready for the job.
"I look forward to the challenges that come ahead of us and when I'm in the office, the challenges in the office,” said DiFalco.
A write-in requires voters to fill in the right bubble, then spell DiFalco name correctly and in the appropriate square, in order for the vote to count.
“That's my passion right now. Is being in the position to not only fight for the victims and for the residents and members of Rockland, but to create an office where it's collaborative, inclusive and to maybe bring back some trust and confidence in the office," she says.
Local firefighters and others are supporting DiFalco after the district attorney’s office offered a plea deal to father-son rabbi's, Nathaniel and Aaron Sommer of fines and probation and no jail-time. The pair pleaded guilty to starting the fire at the Evergreen Assisted Living Facility that killed Spring Valley volunteer firefighter Jared Lloyd and resident Oliver Hueston in March 2021. They are currently serving probation.
Lloyd's mother Sabrail Davenport is endorsing DiFalco.
“It's not just justice for Jared,” said Davenport. “it's justice for all the residents that live in rockland county”
