The Yonkers City Council approved a $1.5 billion budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year by a 6-1 vote, city officials say.

The budget, effective July 1, includes a 2.8% tax increase.

Mayor Mike Spano said it invests in quality-of-life services and public safety without cuts to municipal services or the workforce, while maintaining historic school funding.

Council Member Anthony Merante, the sole dissenter, called the tax hike unfair, especially for seniors on fixed incomes. “It’s not fair to anyone,” Merante said.
