The Yonkers City Council is expected to approve an $8 million settlement with the guardian of a young woman who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a 2015 crash.
The then 14-year-old girl was a passenger in a stolen van being pursued by police on Warburton Avenue when it crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with another vehicle. Both drivers were killed, and speeds during the pursuit exceeded 90 mph.
The girl, now 22, is incapable of performing any tasks independently and will require 24-hour care at a rehabilitation facility for the rest of her life, according to her guardian's attorney.
The lawsuit against the city and police department was filed in 2016, and a settlement was reached last summer. Additionally, the city settled a lawsuit with the estate of the woman whose vehicle was hit for $1.5 million last year.
