Yonkers DPW: Crews are ready to tackle Friday's snow

288ds agoThe Yonkers Department of Public Works says crews are ready for snow on Friday.
Crews hit the roads at 5 a.m. Wednesday to deal with the freezing rain by salting and monitoring conditions. DPW Commissioner Thomas Meier said the City of Hills didn't see any major accidents.
But like many places, the department has its share of workers out due to COVID-19 and quarantines.
"Nothing that is debilitating to the department. We are still able to fight this weather event this morning," Meier said.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer is monitoring this issue.
"It's everywhere in society. Where we are unable to get a full workforce to deal with some of the issues we are having to deal with because of COVID," Latimer said.
Meier said staffing shortages are not affecting their work as they prepare for Friday's snow.
"We are ready. We have the salt, we have the equipment. It's running fine, the men have been practicing," Meier said.
Meier also urged residents who have the option to work from home to do so, so that way they can avoid dangerous conditions on roadways and possible accidents.
