A Yonkers man is facing multiple charges after police say they found him hiding in a closet inside a New Rochelle home during a reported burglary.

It happened Tuesday around 5 p.m. on Stephenson Boulevard.

"The suspect was walking by. He decided to enter by means of breaking a side window of the home. He climbed on an object that was in front of the window," says Capt. J. Collins Coyne, who is with the New Rochelle Police Department.

Coyne says a neighbor heard the glass breaking.

That neighbor called police.

Officers rushed to the home, set up a perimeter around it and ended up finding the suspect hiding in a second-floor bedroom closet.

Leonard Wisher, 65, was taken into custody.

He faces charges of burglary and criminal mischief.

No residents were inside the home when the incident happened.

Neighbors say regardless, it's unsettling.

"It is quiet over here and everyone knows each other, so it was odd, it was really odd," a New Rochelle resident tells News 12.
