A Lincoln High School student is clinging to life at Jacobi Hospital following a crash in Yonkers that had enough force to fling the teen across an intersection.

News 12 obtained surveillance video from two angles of the incident at Dunwoodie Street and Yonkers Avenue at about 3 p.m. Thursday, as school was letting out for the day.

As traffic increased, and streets became lined with students, the 15-year-old Lincoln High student walked behind a bus to cross Yonkers Avenue using the crosswalk when a black Mercedes-Benz hit him, sending him airborne.

"It doesn't allow the other vehicles that come down the street to see you," local business owner William Rossa told News 12, "because they (buses) are blocking the view for the kids to cross."

First responders from multiple departments arrived almost instantly, witnessed said.

Auto repair shop manager Saul Robles said it was difficult to tell right away what happened, who was hit and which car may have been involved.

"I saw a whole bunch of people gathering around." Robles said. "I thought it was the car that was parked in front of him that hit him, but no, he actually just stopped to help the young kid."

As of late Thursday evening, the student was in critical condition at Jacobi with life threatening injuries, Mayor Mike Spano said.

It is unclear whether the driver of the Mercedes-Benz will be charged or cited.

Several witnesses told News 12 the Mercedes seemed to be moving quickly.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, city officials said.
