One person was injured after a late-night fire tore through two neighboring buildings in Ocean Hill — then reignited hours later, sending firefighters back to the scene.

Fire crews rushed to 670–672 Decatur St., between Saratoga Avenue and Thomas S. Boyland Street, just before 11 p.m. Sunday after reports of a fire in the upper part of the buildings.

Officials say one person was taken to Interfaith Hospital with moderate injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The fire was first brought under control around 12:30 a.m.

But about 11 hours later — just before noon Monday — firefighters had to return after a small hot spot flared up inside 670 Decatur St. Crews extended ladders, ran hoses and removed wood panels from windows to regain access. Officials say it took about 30 minutes to put out the rekindled fire, and everything was once again under control.

By Monday afternoon, a full vacate order was posted on 670 Decatur St., meaning everyone inside had to leave. Next door at 672 Decatur St., a partial work stop order for electrical work was also posted.

The American Red Cross says it is helping two households — seven adults and three children — with emergency assistance, including temporary lodging and financial aid.

Neighbors described seeing thick smoke pouring from the buildings as firefighters worked to knock down the flames.

Some residents believe the fire started at 670 Decatur and spread next door, but fire officials say that has not been confirmed.

Fire marshals are investigating what caused the blaze.

A family member who lived in 670 Decatur told News 12 they did not want to go on camera but said everyone is OK. Still, they added this is a family home — and they lost everything.
