An 11-year-old girl from Garnerville is being credited with helping her disabled neighbor and saving her cat during a fire at their multifamily home last month.
Brooklynn Cintron-Acosta, her neighbor and her cat, “Mr. Kitty,” are thankfully OK.
The little girl came home from school March 30 when she opened the door and found her basement apartment on Bridge Street was on fire
Brooklynn says she grabbed her cat and alerted her neighbor, who has cerebral palsy, to get out.
“All I saw was fire, and I saw my cat right there and he was meowing. I just grabbed him and left. It was just so much," said Brooklynn.
Mr. Kitty stayed at the animal hospital overnight for smoke inhalation.
Brooklynn suffered a minor burn on her foot that required medical care
The apartment she shares with her dad and four other siblings is destroyed.
A GoFundMe page is trying to help the family.
