Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard announced Wednesday that the city negotiated a deal to offer the first 200 Mount Vernon residents who signed up on the city's website, a one-day deal to get gas at the lowest price in the country.
The deal will be offered at the BP gas station on South Columbus Avenue.
Gas will be up to $1 less a gallon this Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Only Mount Vernon residents can participate, and they must sign up online.
Just two hours after the announcement, the city already reached its 200-person cap.
The deal is a result of a partnership between Mount Vernon and Atlantis Management Group, which is located in the city.
The mayor says this is a one-day deal but hopes to offer something similar in the future.
