The Westchester County Center is hosting the Freedom Concert: A Tribute to American Military Heroes on Friday night.

The concert is a part of the New York Convention for the American Legion event being held by the county.

The event will be the first concert held at the building since it reopened to the public. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was converted to a makeshift hospital and vaccination hub.

Workers at the center say they are looking forward to the concert.

“We are so excited to be back. Nothing feels better than the excitement in the room, the electricity, the energy. It feels great,” said operations manager Bill Schoenberg.

Artist including Jay and the Americans, the Drifters and Tony Orlando are scheduled to perform their music at the event.

The pop group Tony Orlando and Dawn had a weekly variety show and a strong of hit songs in the 1970s. The famous track “Tie A Yellow Ribbon” is a well-known song used to welcome service members home.

Orlando, who grew up in New York and New Jersey, tells News 12 that he loves Westchester.

"Westchester is beautiful. This area is beautiful," he said. "Beautiful scenery, beautiful people, and there's a sense of calm here."

After more than six decades of show business, Orlando says his greatest joy is helping military veterans.

“To think that this career gave me the chance to help them...You get no better than this,” he said.
